Going For Bold

Soft furnishings are a vitally important part of any room scheme and updating them is arguably the best way of getting the new look you want without out the price tag of a full makeover. Here's some advice from our in-house experts on what to look out for if you feel like a change.

Looks like early 2019 is going to be dominated by big deep colour and bold designs. Gone are the muted tones of early 2018 and even traditional ethnic-inspired patterns are on the wane in favour of botanical themes - at least as far as the top interior design houses are concerned. At Rossiters the furniture salesfloor is already starting to reflects this with even traditionally upholstered sofas being given a contemporary twist with the addition of cushions upholstered in fabulous Rio Velvets by GP & J Baker. These are printed velvets with a colourful dash of Latin spirit. If these bold botanicals make your heart sing but you're not quite ready for a bespoke throws, footstools and cushions are a great way to add some Latin spirit with out a total redesign.

Or for a more cost effective option look our for the many off-the-shelf solutions. Some great examples of the new trend towards richly printed velvets include Designers Guild's Indian-inspired Jaipur Rose collection and the cushions and lampshades offered by the fabulous new kid on the block House of Hackney (below). The fantastically popular design house House of Hackney is also going big on printed velvets.  Their latest range includes a selection of lampshades and cushions in big botanical prints with and equally bold colour palette.
